General Discussion / Toyota R series transmission short shifter spacer!
« Last post by cuttyman9 on June 15, 2026, 05:40:28 PM »
I am using an r150 behind a Mopar 318 but of course Toyota didn’t bless the lower performance versions with easy to install short shifter setups!

So I decided to buy an R154 shifter and design a spacer to make it work.

It unfortunately took some grinding down of the ball which is a bit ghetto but it works smooth and shifts easy and is drastically shorter.

Great upgrade for old Toyota pickups.

These transmissions seem very underrated and IMO the iron Midplate is probably most of why. The later AR5 counterparts have aluminum as does the jeep ax15’s but share the bellhousing to trans bolt pattern so they can be swapped around a bit.

Adding a send cut send link soon to the spacers I used.

The backspacing in the rotors isn’t available elsewhere, we need the overall height because those numbers are available.

If you’re using the wrong rotor per the writeup (I’m leaning this way because an aftermarket 2pc gs350 F sport rotor would be a rare thing to find) the solution is to offset the caliper accordingly relative to the rotor you chose. A few people have used isf and RCF rotors with 17z and 18z calipers  but that was not the intended design for the bracket and requires, for lack of a better term, “customizing”.

Back spacing measurement 2 1/8" on this rotor the customer provided. Does any one have a measurement of the rotors they are using ?

That is with a 10mm spacer behind the rotor hat in-between the hub.

Hey guys, my customer has brought me this kit to install and well lets just say its a very interesting job to make fit. I have a question about the back spacing of this rotor upgrade vs what ever you guys have been able to make work. I have 5 mm of washer as stated above  but it seems to be out to lunch.

Section that needs clearancing

This design requires a bit of clearancing on the backside lower section of the caliper, it interferes at full lock but can also have some work done to the ball joint/control arm as it is bulky in that area for no reason.

The rotors are 5x114.3 out of the box so if you wish to retain 5x100 you’ll need a 54.1 to 60.1 hub ring to match the rotors and a bit of Redrilling on the rotors.

I used 6th gen Celica front calipers on my 1990 Gts it still requires the washers but it bolted to the knuckle.

Send cut send update!

I’ve found I have no more time for offering these but send cut send now has a marketplace and I can offer them there direct for much cheaper because it cuts me out as middle man.

The brackets will all be the same as the previous steel ones except that the thread pitch is m10-1.5 instead of m10-1.25(ones shipped through me)

Looking into releasing a new file that uses a bolt that passes through rather than thread your own in the top post.

M16-1.5x55mm needed for the front caliper to bracket.
M16-1.5 nut, these will fit reversed installed on the bracket before installing the caliper and bracket over the rotor.

M12-1.75x35mm needed for the bracket to the knuckle.
M12-1.75 nut

Purchase bolt through type here (priced per pair):
