5x114.3 Swap
« on: January 07, 2015, 12:56:02 AM »
The car: 1992 Celica GT

Plan: Swap from 5x100 to 5x114.3(4.5) bolt pattern

Prior to this post there weren't any definitive how-to's

This works for 86-99 celicas, but note there are variances between different years. I will list a few I've encountered helping people do this swap.

For 92-99 celica GT/GTS
Parts needed:
-1996-00 Rav4 front hubs (XA10)
-1992-01 Camry rear hubs
-1992-01 Camry V6 rotors (front and rear)
-10x 1/16" washers (high grade preferred) -> or a thin spacer ~ 1.5mm or the thickness of a quarter
-inner and outer front seals for the front hubs x2 (recommended to change with new bearings)
-1986-99 celica front wheel bearings (recommended to change with new hubs)

***1986-91 Celica GTS***
Parts needed:
-1996-00 RAV4 Front hubs (XA10)
-1992-01 Camry Rear hubs
-1992-01 Camry V6 rotors (front and rear)
-1992-99 Celica Front calipers and caliper brackets
-10x 1/16" washers (high grade preferred) -> or a thin spacer ~ 1.5mm or the thickness of a quarter
-inner and outer front seals for the front hubs x2 (recommended to change with new bearings)
-1986-99 celica front wheel bearings (recommended to change with new hubs)

***1986-91 celica ST/GT and 1992-1999 ST (Drum rear brakes)***
-Use the same as GTS but either swap to disc in the rear or use a Camry rear drum(usually on 4 cup. Model)

the rest are images of the rest of the part I found off another forum

camry left, celica right

camry hub on a junkyard celica

camry rear brake disc vs the celica one
thickness of the rotor is only marginally bigger on the camry otherwise they are identical

camry top, celica bottom

*** update ***
Washers have been shown to cause a bit of an issue digging into the hub.
Buying a thin wheel spacer of the same size is a better idea (3mm are available, 2mm would be custom)
Washers still work, but might have different effects. I didn't have issues but one other person did.

Thank you for reading

I did this swap this week (fronts only so far). I used a hub puller tool and a slide hammer, both rented from auto zone, to remove the hub. The bolt that allows everything to come apart will need a 30mm socket. Here's the bump I ran into when taking everything apart:
When I pulled the Celica hubs off, the inner race of the wheel bearing came out with both hubs. I was unable to remove the inner race from the hub and at some point nicked one of the inner races. As a result I ended up buying new wheel bearings and paying my mechanic to press them back in. This increased the cost of the swap by approximately $280 and made the work I put in pointless since the mechanic redid everything I had previously done when he replaced the wheel bearings.
Other than that, I went with the washers instead of the spacer (about dime to quarter width). The car feels great.

Cost:
Rav4 hubs x 2 - $55 (ebay)
Camry Rotors x 2 - $70 (auto zone)
Washers x 10 - $4
Seals (Inner x 2, Outter x 2) - $50

That's about $180 for the front swap with new parts if you're able to do it without replacing the wheel bearings.

I used 6th gen Celica front calipers on my 1990 Gts it still requires the washers but it bolted to the knuckle.
