Adding the System 10 to a GT (will clean up soon)
« on: January 07, 2015, 12:12:57 AM »
5th gen system 10 install

so I was lucky enough to spot the door panel covers and boxes for the 8" subwoofers that are mounted in each door in the junkyard.
I'm in the process of installing it in my celica.

the car:1992 Celica GT
the task: install door panel inserts and speakers in a factory door location

so far I've examined the door panels from the car that these were pulled from and they are the same as every other door panel without the extra stereo equipment except for the cutout for the box.

At this point in the project I haven't picked which woofers/speakers I'm planning on installing and I still need a set of door panels to cut up (trying to avoid cutting my stock stuff to pieces)
The parts needed are the boxes, the covers, the speakers and if possible some of the wiring so it has some factory simplicity in connectors.
Then dependent on the layout you're going with in terms of what the speakers/woofers are being driven by, some length of wire will be needed.

so far from checking out the door itself, the holes in it are the same between them so the only additions are holes where the speaker box either blocks or mounts to. This system uses the inside of the door as a box creating a large area for deep tones.

will add more as I progress through this.

^stock door panels

^inside of the doors

^door speaker bits

So far I have one panel fully fitted but it does not have the 8" speaker installed (I have yet to order them)

Couple things I've found out; rerouting the wires for the mirror through a gap in the triangular part at the top is better for sealing off the door, the celicas come wired for the system 10 door speakers even if not equiped which allows them to plug directly in and be a part of the front speaker layout, and that cutting the door panel itself sucks.

One quick question, does anyone know of a good cleaner for the vinyl? The door panel I used has stains on it in the little insert but I can't seem to get them to come out, I tried something similar to gum out for residues and also brake clean(not direct, off a paper towel). Any advice on what has been successful in cleaning the door panels with stains would be much appreciated.

While doing all of this yesterday I installed my new 4" front speakers, there were a few modifications needing to take place. The factory used a speaker with a dropped mounting point with raised spots where it was bolted down, to fit aftermarket(can only speak for the infinity kappa's I bought) speakers it is needed to trim them down with a knife or other cutting tool. The speakers I bought were also the two way style with the tweeter mounted in the center which interfered with the passenger side speaker grill center support. After using a pair of wire snips I had it fitting perfectly. Pictures will be posted soon.

use Hydrogen Peroxide to remove grime and stains. If it gets dried up soaked in blood out of a white shirt, it will work for this.

Not right now.
I've had the better speakers in the doors for about 2 years now (roughly)
