Title: Electric power steering
Post by: cuttyman9 on April 27, 2017, 09:31:55 PM
One of the things I had planned to do since I had started putting the 5sgte together was to convert to electric power steering.

The factory system is antiquated and added extra clutter to the already full engine compartment.

I started with a Volvo S70 electric pump with the remote reservoir mounting system.
I chose this because it doesn't require anything fancy, just a hot and a ground, it's very new and out of a lot of inexpensive cars so the pumps are very cheap also I hear they are brushless which is an upgrade over the old sw20 pumps everyone uses.

You need a pump (make sure to get the mounting bracket and wiring pigtails)
some spare factory line ends,
a circuit breaker/ fuse(70-100amp),
a relay (70-100 amp capable),
Russel fitting ,
Reservoir of our choice (unless yours has a built in reservoir) (I chose a 67 chevelle remote reservoir,
Some clamps and hose (if you have a remote reservoir)
1"x.125" flat stock,
Few bolts and nuts that all match.

Tools:
Cuttoff wheel
Welder
Vice
Hammer

Basically you start by bending cardboard around
