Title: 1992 Celica ST Low And Slow Daily Cruiser Build
Post by: tybokum on November 30, 2016, 10:47:42 PM
So I already started this build thread elsewhere but it came to my attention that this forum is more active than that one. So here it goes ...
I picked up this 1992 celica ST for 800$ with a salvage title, 170k miles, Megan Racing Lowering Springs, cracked radiator, and huge exhaust leak at the header and a ton more small problems and flaws . I started with an eBay radiator for 60 bucks. The coolant was rusty, and very low. Flushed it with a hose for 15 minutes and installed the new one easily with a radiator cap with a safety release fromy O'Reilly auto . Next I bought a header. It was originally for a corolla with a 5afe also and I read in a few places that it fit easily. They were wrong . The corolla header wasn't long enough at the downpipe section to reach the cat and there was no O2 sensor bung . So since I have no welder I brought it to a local shop and he simply extended the downpipe and added an O2 bung. The car is running pretty damn good now . I need a new power steering pump and reservoir, an alignment, and I need to figure out why fuel gauge isn't working. It's pretty much mechanically sound enough to be my daily commuter and start with the fun stuff. It had a cheap shift knobut that spun and vibrated constantly so my buddy gave me a nismo shift know that I forced on pretty much and it's solid . I also ordered a hub/quick release that was kind of cheap but not an eBay one so I'll post that when it comes in Saturday. I have a purty nrg wheel to install.
I started bodywork on the peeling clear coat. I'm rattle canning for now but I plan on spraying it with a legitimate gun later on. I pulled the driver side fender and bent in the inner tabs in preparation for coilovers. For now that's all I can think of and I will continue to update this when I get more done. And I promise to take better pictures because these ones suck a LOT ;D
