Is300/gs300 dual rear caliper setup (drifting/hydro/etc)
« on: August 10, 2021, 12:32:29 AM »
Here is the IS300/Altezza rear dual BBK!
**also fits GS300 and GS400**

This is for all you drift nuts. Yes it’s overkill but I didn’t want some tiny stock calipers and mini rotors when you have my 6 pot front or 350phi’s 6 pot front so I ran with my existing design but added another caliper! I figure at ~50 a pair in most junkyards it’s hard to beat so here it is!

You'll need:

——————CALIPERS—————
02-10 VW Toureg
03-10 Porsche Cayenne
05-15 Audi Q7
(2x right, 2x left)

(I have found car-part.com is the cheapest place to search, its an annoying website but yields the cheapest prices outside of local junkyards)

PNs  20.7673.03 and 20.7673.04 (see pictures for the location)

—————-HARDWARE—————-

4x hex M12-1.75x25 (30mm will work as well)
(McmasterCarr.com PN 98093A746)

8x hex M14-1.5x30 (35mm long will work as well)
(or reuse the hardware from Cayenne/Toureg/Q7, Even though they are a bit long.)
(Mcmastercarr.com PN 91180A778)

———————-ROTORS—————-

2x 2008-2014 ISF rear brake rotor  PN PRT6106

——brake lines——
Stock brake lines can be used although I would recommend getting stainless braided lines as it improves feel vastly.

For the hydro setup that will depend on what parts you use.

NOTE: Calipers will need to be modified but only slightly.
Depending on brand of pads clearancing the of pad “weights” might be needed.

I found this tool works very well for this little bit of clearancing and is pretty damn cheap!

https://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/grinders-sanders/portable-belt-sanders/53-amp-12-in-heavy-duty-bandfile-belt-sander-62863.html

Their sanding belts are kinda shitty so prep for using a few.

Make sure all bleeders face upward and all crossovers are on the bottom.

Typically in normal calipers for braking you want the small pistons to hit the rotor first(so if you draw and arrow on the rotor of the rotation of it while the car goes forward the arrow should see small pistons first)

If you don’t have the pistons in the right direction for normal braking then they squeal upon light pedal pressure.

**You will remove the brake line cover and the rubber isolator and bend the brake line up and away from the rotor area.**

**the brake lines and bleeders need to be flipped as the small pistons are on the top and the big pistons are on the bottom.**

This is the final result, it does require some machining on the forward calipers.
Do remember to confirm the small pistons touch the rotor first (in the rotational direction of the rotor if that makes sense)

This is the small amount of clearancing needed to install these (over the existing clearancing of the 2 caliper setup)
This should only be required on the inside part of the forward calipers.
You should be able to reuse the factory Porsche hardware for the caliper attachment (do not reuse the cars hardware to attach the brackets to the knuckle!)
If you reuse the Porsche hardware you’ll need to clearance the knuckle to dodge the hardware(shown in another picture)

Start by bolting the forward caliper to the flat side of the bracket.

Little more clearancing.
It’s a tight fit putting these big calipers in the rear

Thanks to Sergio for adding some pics.

The hardware listed helps to not require as much clearancing because the bolts are shorter (instead of reusing the hardware like I did in the mock up)
