2gr swap
First I'd like to give a big thanks to
Marc at Frankenstein Motorworks and
Doug at Wire Gap Their flexibility, knowledge and products made this swap possible.
(
http://frankensteinmotorworks.squarespace.com, wiregap.com/)
Let's get started.
Transmission
2grfe bolts to E series transmissions and S series transmissions.
One bolt hole needs to be tapped for an m12 bolt on the engine.
Take a carbide bur to clearance two nubs on the block/oil pan.
The hex head screws needed are:
2X M12-1.25x55mm
1X M12-1.25x70mm
1X M10-1.25x40mm
I prefer over building everything so each of these is at least grade 10.9 or better but you can pick as you wish.
I sourced these from eBay but fastenal has a wonderful supply of hardware as well.

You can use a stock 1mz flywheel but you’ll be missing out on added Performance/better revving.

3S-GTE/1MZ-FE clutch will work
Brand: Southbend

Engine Mounting
The passenger side engine mount needs to be made or purchased from me.
(650 shipped in the states. Made to order)
The other 3 mounts are on the transmission. I deleted the crossmember and have only the two side mounts and a rear mount.
Fuel pump-320L/Hr
Brand: AEM
PN: 50-1000
https://m.summitracing.com/parts/avm-50-1000The 2GR-FE is a returnless style fuel system and the 5g celica is a return style
Using an aftermarket adjustable fuel pressure regulator (FPR) run the return to the bottom of it.
I will probably retain the fuel line from the rear of the car to the filter in the engine bay but make new line from the filter to the FPR and rails.
Fuel Pressure Regulator
Brand: Aeromotive
PN: 13129
https://m.summitracing.com/parts/aei-13129Gauge
PN: 650340
https://m.summitracing.com/parts/rus-650340It helps to have an aftermarket fuel rail because of the angle the stock rail puts the inlet but it can be made to work without aftermarket rails, I was being overly critical.
Fuel rails
Brand: Radium Engineering
PN 20-0198
Army Navy (AN) fittings used
(need to update)
1x 220167B
2x 220887B
1x 220831B
1x AN2008B5 (-8AN 5ft but you only need 6” roughly)
2x 220165B
1x 640913
2x AN920-06-06B
1x 21006
1x AN2006B5 (-6AN 5ft but roughly 1.5ft needed)
2x 220687B
Return line
1x 11954R (-4AN 2ft roughly 1ft needed)
1x 16822
1x 220487B
(should be able to push the -4AN line over the factory fuel return line, it’s low pressure so a clamp on it should be adequate)
212cc Uni 5/16” crankcase breather for gas tank breather (when you remove the charcoal canister there needs to be a filter)
Pedal Mount
Fly-By-Wire (fbw) pedal mount
It needs to be made or you can purchase one from me
(180 shipped in the US, 9 available)
Power Steering
It can be deleted, you can adapt the stock 2gr pump or do like I did and adapted a Volvo electric pump.
(I may make brackets to mount the pump ahead of the driver side front wheel)
For non-power steering non-AC systems use Dayco belt PN 5070579
Mass Air Flow Sensor
From: Toyota
PN:
3.25” MAF adapter
Brand: MRP Performance
**Note**
if you want more Performance you can order a MAF adapter from Frankenstein Motorworks along with the matching maf and ecu tune which is supposed to pick up 15hp at the wheels and shave 5 tenths off the quarter in an sw20.
Wiring Harness
I sent my harness to Doug at wiregap.com
You send your harnesses (one from the car and one from the engine)
ECU
Modified by:Frankenstein Motorworks
**Must match your harness**
**Note**
You can use a stock ecu, you will just be missing out on a handful of hp, a higher rev limit and a deleted check engine light.

Brand: Frankenstein Motorworks
http://frankensteinmotorworks.squarespace.com/shop/headers **Note**
Factory manifolds should be able to be made to work. You may have to run two fronts.
The rears I’ve seen won’t fit.
Downpipe
I made my own crude one. An exhaust shop should be able to make one for you or modify a stock one.
Steering rack strap:
You’ll have to modify the stock one or purchase the parts I have
(9 available $150 shipped in the US)
Radiator:
Early 90s civic radiator
Purchased a 3 row on eBay.
You can probably use a factory radiator but it was too close to the header and the ac compressor.
Radiator mounts
You will have to make your own or purchase the brackets from me.
(9 available, $150 shipped in the US)
There’s a lot of small stuff but this is the majority of the parts required.
This could probably be done very inexpensively if you omitted all but the required parts and made a lot yourself. The engine mount would be the hardest part.
This should work the same in 88-91 Camry and 86-89 Celicas with the S engines.
