Part interchangability
« on: January 07, 2015, 01:39:35 AM »
This is a copy of a thread I started over at CTech, so if you've seen it before, that's where you saw it.

The goal is to keep a reference of part interchangeability between 5th gen styles, as well as interchangeability with other vehicles. I'm hoping to keep other vehicle parts limited to those that require minimal modifications.
Please post additions or corrections, this list is obviously far from exhaustive and some of these are based on someone's memory not my checking.

Body
Spoiler. 3 part fastback narrow and wide bodies
Short: No.
Long: the spoiler is shorter front to back on the narrow body and will not fit in the opposite style mounting holes, they could be made to fit with some modification to the trunk lid and body.

Front Bumper
Short: Yes
Long: The RC bumper will not fit with the crash bar used by the other bumpers without modification to either the crash bar or bumper

Rear Bumper
Short: by body style
Long: Coupe bumpers do not fit hatch backs, and vice versa. Wide body bumper covers do not fit narrow bodies or vice versa (thanks XLarge)

fog lights
Short: sometimes
Long: the 92-93's are larger than the 90-91's (except the alltrac), they will mount but will not fit the stock bumpers properly. Neither set can be mounted with the RC crash bar without modification

Wheels
Short: Usually
Long: the 90-91 ST are 4x100 pattern, all other models are 5x100

hood
Short: Yes
Long: All hoods interchange between all models (including Alltrac and CS/RC)

Front Fenders
Short: All but convertible
Long: The convertible fenders will not mount properly to non-convertible cars. Normal fenders (both wide and narrow) can be modified to fit a convertible. All non-convertible fenders are interchangeable

Tail Lights
Short: within body styles
Long: between years, but not body styles (coupe vs hatch) will swap.

Front Glass
Short: Yes
Long: The convertible has a diversity antenna for the stock stereo? otherwise they are all the same.

Interior
Front Seats
Short: Yes
Long: All seats are interchangeable, the alltrac uses a different bracket

back seats
Short: within style?
Long: The alltrac/GT4 seats are unique. Hatchback seats are interchangeable, possibly with coupes? Convertible seats are unique?

cluster surround (upper)
Short: Yes
Long: The GT-S surround from a 91 fits in a 93 Alltrac

Electrical and Audio
System 10
Short: Some
Long: There are 4? different harnesses for the System 10 head unit depending on which model, year, and whether it was a factory option or a dealer option. This does not apply to the amp

Speakers
Short: By factory equipment
Long: Factory System 10 cars typically have the larger front speakers (4" speakers barely fit the bracket).

Climate Control Module
Short: some
Long: the GTS advanced control from a 91 doesn't work with a 93 Alltrac, the harnesses are different

Gauge Cluster
Short: Yes.
Long: You may need to reset the millage to match that of your original cluster or declare that the millage on the cluster is incorrect to your local vehicle authority.

Suspension
struts
All struts are the same across all styles EXCEPT the rear alltrac suspension. (shorter rear struts due to axle shafts)

Engine Bay
cross member
Front engine cross brace and transmission mounts are different between the different model transmissions. Example st is different than gt/gts which are also different than alltrac/gtfour. (thanks celicatuner92)

Brakes
Parking Brake
Short: 92-93 celicas use the same parking brake hardware as the 94-99 (thanks celicatuner92)

You´re wrong in case of the rear bumper. The rear bumper skin from a narrow body won´t fit a wide body or vice versa !

I thought for sure that the bumper cover on my Alltrac was off a GT. I'll have to see if I can figure out for sure, unless you have pictures?

I know for sure that the coupe cover is different.

Are you wanting to go as far as little things like igniter coils and all or just odd parts

It might be useful to list parts that are common across the 3sgte/3sge/5sfe/4afe if possible, but since the engines are different it probably doesn't makes sense to point out that they're different

Don't know if it will really help but 92-93 celicas use the same parking brake hardware as the 94-99 6th gen celica

It's interesting, but I'm not sure if it belongs in the 5th gen interchangeability thread. Maybe, we should add a 5th gen/other car thread?

Maybe. I know when I was trying to find a hardware kit for my car no one listed one so I bought the one for the 6th gen hoping it was close enough to make work.

Might try expanding to any parts off other cars that interchange with a 5th gen.

I think that is useful info since people with a 5th gen can come here and see what people have applied to their car.

The key would be to quote individuals who verify that but put all info into the original post.

Awesome, I feel that helps anyone with these cars since parts aren't exactly falling off trees as toyota continues to discontinue parts

I agree that we definately need that information, I just wasn't sure if belonged here or in its own list.
